Alfa Romeo Giulietta in Turin!

Giulietta – First Impressions

Graham Halliday and I had the pleasure this week of attending the interational dealer launch of the fantastic new Alfa Romeo Giulietta in Turin and at the Balocco proving ground near Milan.

The photographs of this car looked really stylish and individual, but this was nothing when we saw the car for real. What a presence!! Apparently true art looks better in the flesh than on paper and if this is the case then the Giulietta is most certainly ‘Art’.

But what lies beneath meant that the story for this car just kept getting better. An all new platform, Formula 1 inspired pre fill brakes, quietest cabin in this class,……

It just kept getting better and better.

In every category on paper alone this car trounces all its competitors and this includes some models that don’t provide as good value for money. That is before we take the stunning looks into account.

For the accountants among us it works, for the designers it works, for the engineers it works, but I also had the best experience of my Alfa Romeo life in Balocco.

Alex Fiori, a former world rally driver for Lancia and whose father raced for Ferrari was on hand to drive us on the track. Little did we imagine at what speed he was going to do this. I must admit that I didn’t think that a standard car, albeit an Alfa Romeo could corner at those speeds. The way it stuck to the road through corners at very high speeds was simply incredible.

Everyone repeated the journalists claims that this is one fantastic Alfa Romeo. An Alfa Romeo in every sense of the word!
